Contents of the project

Trade routes have crossed the Alps since the Stone Age and formed the backbone of Europe’s economic and cultural development. Building on this history, a new, sustainable and cross-border tourism offer is to be created to strengthen economic development in the project area. A bookable long-distance hiking offer on existing trails will be created with consideration of public arrival and departure in accordance with the European Travel Directive. The cultural heritage of the Cramars (itinerant traders in Italy) and the muleteers (medieval forwarding agents and itinerant traders in Austria) is brought closer with storytelling during slow-paced long-distance hiking in impressive natural and cultural landscapes. Regional products and services play a key role in this. Marketing and awareness-raising measures as well as the conception and implementation of a hemmer and cramars market are also planned.

Our H.O.T. historical overmountain trail project is listed in the INTERREG VI-A project database between Austria and Italy. It belongs to the thematic area of sustainable and cultural tourism, has a budget of around 657,400 euros and runs from January 2024 to the end of June 2026. EU funding of 485,510 euros has been promised.
