FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What level of fitness should I have for the Alpina Antica Trail?
Depending on the section of the route, the Alpina Antica Trail is generally moderate to more demanding in terms of fitness, with only low demands in the Friulian lowlands:
– Ascents of up to 1,300 meters in altitude depending on the stage
– Descents of up to 1,400 meters in altitude depending on the stage
– Trail length of up to 21 km depending on the stage
Even if all three maximum values never come together on one stage, this means pure walking times of between 4 hours and 7 hours.
Walking times are calculated using the Outdooractive formula (Outdooractive is one of the world’s largest providers of tour documentation and the market leader in German-speaking countries). This includes fast walking times, which correspond to the average speed of a well-trained mountain hiker.
Important: The times given are pure walking times, i.e. breaks must be added. Appropriate physical preparation is recommended.
Our tip: As you are on a multi-day tour here, you should have hiked similar physical demands before as a day tour. You can also plan a rest day in between so that you can recover. You can visit cultural highlights of the respective region such as old churches, monasteries, castles and fortresses, museums, excavations etc. and enjoy the typical regional cuisine.
What technical challenges await me on my hike on the Alpina Antica Trail?
Technically speaking, the Alpina Antica Trail is of moderate difficulty in the alpine area and easy in the Friulian lowlands:
The more challenging stages are on moderately difficult mountain paths with a red dot.
This means:
– Difficult sections of the trail are predominantly narrow and often steep.
– There may be short sections of insured footpaths.
– Due to weather conditions or short-term extreme weather events, hiking trails may be in poorer condition (e.g. slippery) or less visible due to fog.
To be able to manage this as a mountain hiker without any problems, you need to be sure-footed and have a certain head for heights.
However, individual stages near the valley and the paths in the Friulian lowlands are also easier and almost all of them run along easy paths with a blue dot. In the Friulian lowlands, the heat is a factor to consider, especially in the summer months. The Trail Angels Info & Booking Center will be happy to advise you in this regard.
Is the Alpina Antica Trail suitable for children?
The Alpina Antica Trail is suitable for children aged 12 and over in very good physical condition.

In addition to area-specific hiking maps, you can also download the route of the Alpina Antica Trail via Google Maps or Outdooractive.
