Alpina Antica Trail

Ancient paths - vivid connections

Old paths and lived connections

As you walk, you become part of a centuries-old tradition

The Alpina Antica Trail is not just a long-distance hiking trail, but a story. A story that is centuries old and has been brought back to life. The Alpina Antica Trail is more than just a long-distance hiking trail.

It is a journey through time

A journey to the roots of European trade, to the courageous muleteers and itinerant traders who crossed the Alps with their pack animals and packhorses, thus connecting regions, cultures and people.

Our idea was not only to make this historic route visible, but to make it tangible. Step by step. Valley by valley. Encounter by encounter

The partners with enthusiasm

A project of this size can only succeed if there are people behind it who are passionate about tradition, landscape, nature, culture and the future.

And it is precisely these partners that we have found.

From regional businesses to tourism associations and cultural organizations:

Each individual partner brings a piece of history, a piece of passion and a piece of identity to this journey. And we thank them for that.

The route – from Chiemsee to Venice

Imagine the following:

You start at glistening Lake Chiemsee, hike through the mighty Alpine massif, along old mule tracks, through valleys full of tradition, past historic farms, castles, towns and markets – and finally reach the Adriatic Sea. The last stage takes you by boat across the shimmering sea to the lagoon city of Venice.

A path that connects two worlds like a ribbon: The Alpine region and the Mediterranean rhythm of life. Old traces – revived. History – experienced anew. An experience you won’t forget.

The experiences

The Alpina Antica Trail doesn’t just offer scenery. It gives encounters.

With people who live their traditions. With regional cuisine that tastes of home. With stories that are passed on and perhaps also with themselves.

These are the moments that remain:

The sound of bells in the morning mist, the smell of fresh bread in a mountain farmhouse parlor, the feeling of standing at the top of the mountain and seeing the world.

If you go this way, you take something with you that you can’t carry in a suitcase: The feeling of having become part of a centuries-old tradition.

The Alpina Antica Trail is a gift

For the regions.

For the people.

And for all those who want to feel what being on the road really feels like again.

We look forward to rewriting this story together with you.

Two hikers with rucksacks stand on a stone path and look out over a picturesque sunset with mountains. The scene is framed by a triangle, next to which is another triangle with the word AUSZEIT.
A man in yellow clothing poses and smiles with his thumb raised in front of a historic church while someone takes a photo of him with a phone. The scene is framed by a triangular graphic with the word ERLEBEN on a golden stripe.
A smiling elderly couple with backpacks walk hand in hand along a cobblestone path towards a historic stone building with an arched entrance and clock tower. A light blue triangular graphic is in the lower right corner.

Hiking on historical trails

Experience landscape, culture and time

The Alpina Antica Trail connects the Alpine region with the Mediterranean and builds a bridge between past and present. What is now an extraordinary long-distance hiking trail was once one of the most important trade routes in Europe. Muleteers and traders crossed the Alps here, exchanging goods, knowledge, culture, ideas and stories and connecting entire regions. Today, this route is being revived – not as a museum, but as an authentic, lively experience for anyone who wants to feel history with every step. The trail leads along old mule tracks, through valleys, over passes and through impressive natural and cultural landscapes. Along the way, you will pass farms, castles, towns, markets and villages that are still shaped by this history today. Every hike is a journey through unique natural and cultural landscapes and centuries.

Alpina Antica Trail - Crossing the Alps in 38 stages

Two people walk along a grassy mountain path with snow-capped peaks in the background under a clear blue sky. Wildflowers and green slopes surround them, creating a picturesque alpine landscape.

More than just a hiking trail

Encounters that last

In addition to mountains, quiet valleys, untouched river landscapes and sweeping views, it is above all the people who shape the character of this route. You will encounter living traditions, regional cuisine and little stories away from the guidebooks. Moments of tranquillity are also part of the experience: Church bells in the morning mist, the smell of fresh bread, resting by pristine streams and the Tagliamento river or the view from the summit that shows why you set out. The Alpina Antica Trail is not a quick route – but the more beautiful detour.
